Following the success of the 2 nd IANIS Annual Conference in Budapest during 2004, the successor programme, IANIS+, is pleased to announce the 3 rd Annual Conference that will take place in Lille, 13th-14th June 2005. .
On behalf of the IANIS+ Steering Committee, and of the Conference Planning Group, we are pleased to invite you to participate at this important regional event. Building on last year’s successful conferences, attended by more than 300 delegates from 93 regions with all EU-25 states represented, we anticipate that the 2005 conference will be an equally great success.
Regions are of growing importance as engines of change in Europe, acquiring increasing competences and able to deliver real progress on the ground. At the same time, the effective adoption of new information and communications technologies holds the key to the transformation to the knowledge-based economy and society. This year’s conference brings these important themes together with a focus on building competitive regions through the transformative uses of ICTs so as to achieve regional (and European) development goals of more profitable enterprises, more and better quality employment, increased social inclusion and enhanced territorial cohesion.
Achieving increased competitiveness in a fast-changing global environment calls for new policy approaches and new understanding of the dynamics of the change processes - as they affect regions and their development. At the same time, regions need to take concrete steps, investing in the right priorities, learning from good practice and avoiding repeating the mistakes of others. With these issues in mind, the conference will offer a mixture of plenary sessions addressing key policy issues through a range of eminent keynote speakers and debates, and ample workshop-based opportunities for networking, the sharing of good practice and the development of new partnerships, collaborations and project proposals.
The conference will, in addition, offer social activities and events, providing further opportunities for informal networking as well as an exhibition space and an Internet café, acting as focal points for peer-to-peer meetings.
We hope you will find our agenda both relevant and exciting, and our choice of venue ideal. We look forward to welcoming you in Lille this June.
